A family story says Samuel was a War of 1812 veteran.
Born in Pennsylvannia. Moved to Ohio between 1820 and 1825. In 1830 Ohio census (but not 1840!) Last child born 1844 in Ohio. Moved to Iowa between 1850 and 1856. Remained in Iowa.

Some family researchers think he was connected to the Dudley Swezey line in Vermont and that the McNeill family and Swezey Family moved together to Pennsylvannia and on to Iowa. Betsy's brothers are buried in the Caloma Cemetary, SW of Knoxville, Iowa. The last farms owned by Sam and Betsy were just across the Marion County line in Warren county.
